Table of Contents

It’s springtime in the Haliburton Highlands, and it’s time to get outside, enjoy the sunshine and explore the great outdoors. Spring is a picturesque time of year when nature reawakens with blooming wildflowers and the roaring rush of waterfalls. There are over 400 majestic waterfalls in Ontario, and several of them are located within an hour of Sir Sam’s Inn and Spa in Eagle Lake. Our resort offers a tranquil destination where you can reconnect and relax in the heart of nature. We look forward to welcoming you to our nature retreat in Ontario!

Buttermilk Falls

Buttermilk Falls is the closest waterfall to Sir Sam’s Inn and Spa, approximately a 25-minute drive. The falls include a sluiceway from when the river was used as a resource to move logs. This concrete base causes the water to pick up speed and flow rapidly down the bedrock. Buttermilk Falls is a popular destination for fishing, hiking, and scenic picnics in the park. Please keep in mind that the area where the river meets the lakefront is private property and not accessible to the public.

Ritchie Falls

Located along the Burnt River, Ritchie Falls comprises several small falls along the trail. The largest falls can be found under the Ritchie Falls Road bridge, which you can view from the road. Park your car here, head down the path to view the remaining falls, and set up a picnic next to the picturesque views. You can also cross the bridge and pick up the Haliburton County Rail Trail if you want to spend some time biking through the Highlands.

Furnace Falls

Although just a few metres high, Furnace Falls is a picturesque waterfall between Kinmount and Gooderham. The waterfall is just off the highway and a short walk from the parking area. The calm water of the falls makes the perfect spot to cool off during the summer months. This destination was once a mining settlement with log cabins, a general store, a post office, and a schoolhouse. Today you can see the remnants of log buildings off of White Boundary Road in an open field.

Ragged Falls

Ragged Falls is the furthest waterfall in Ontario on this list from Sir Sam’s Inn and Spa, but worth the trip! Located in Ragged Falls Provincial Park and near Algonquin Park, this is a fantastic destination for a day trip of outdoor activities. Ragged Falls is an impressive sight to see, showcasing the powerful force of glacial melt-water. Hike the one km trail to a fantastic overlook of this wild waterfall.

Other waterfalls near Muskoka: Bracebridge Falls, Muskoka Falls, & Stubbs Falls.
